AC repairs are never fun, especially in the middle of a hot summer. Fortunately, many AC repairs can be eliminated completely as long as you follow a regular maintenance schedule. Here are a few AC repairs that can easily be avoided:
Water leaks from the AC system occur when the drain to release the moisture in the condensation coils is blocked. Instead of taking the water outside of the home, it is pooling inside, which can cause significant water damage in your home where ever the indoor unit is located. This is definitely something that can be avoided with regular maintenance since one thing that professionals check when making a regular inspection is the condensation drain. If it's dirty, it will be cleaned so that you won't have to worry about any water leaks this summer.
Frozen coils can occur when the warm air is not reaching the coils or there is not enough refrigerant to move the warm air through the system. This allows too much cold air to build up, freezing the coils. When this happens, it's a major issue because it can prevent the AC unit from moving cold air through the home altogether. When the hot air cannot be moved through the frozen coils, it is going to prevent cold air from being readily produced. When you have your AC serviced regularly, this issue is going to be resolved when the refrigerant levels are checked and refilled if necessary, the air filters are replaced to allow air to move fluidly throughout the system, and the fan motor is replaced or cleaned to help cycle the air.
Replacing the Entire System:
Replacing the entire AC system is not entirely avoidable, but it can be prolonged. However, this is not the case for many homeowners since many times they are told a part needs to be replaced even though their AC seems to be working fine. The problem with this is that when parts become worn, even if they are continuing to work, they will cause wear and tear to other components of the system before this part breaks down completely. This is then causing the entire system to have problems, which leads to the higher chance of replacement sooner rather than later.
When you know what repairs can be avoided with regular maintenance, you can see why scheduling for a regular AC service before the summer season arrives is so important.
